To mark Barrow
Youth Theatre's tenth year the company put together a festival
of six short plays. Three were devised by the company members,
two written by Youth Theatre members, and a rehearsed reading
of new writing that had only been produced once before.
Night one – Family
night
Beak
A puppet show devised by the company
Chickadee is a chicken who has lost his beak and travels
into the far reaches of space in the farmers crop duster
to find it.
Ginger
By Stephanie Sloane
Ginger is a cat, but no ordinary cat
. . . HE CAN TALK. Ginger is the hilarious story of how
he learnt!
Fairy
By Barrow Junior Youth Theatre
There’s something in the attic
. . . Kia has lost his mobile phone. When his sister starts
getting weird texts from the lost phone, things start to
get creepy. A funny and heart-warming story about a family
of stepbrothers and sisters trying to get on.
Night two – Plays with BYTe
Solid
By Robin Lennox
Tough lads (not) hanging about on
street corners and the heist of the century (well no!) -
they haven’t got the brains but they do have a younger
brother.
Car
Devised by the cast
Three teens on their way to Liverpool, in the worst car
in the world. When the car breaks down things go from bad
to worse. A road movie with no travelling.
Souled out
By Jeff Williams
Rehearsed Reading
Its 1974, Northern Soul rules the north of England; big
dance moves, big collars and big laughs with a splash of
double diamond.
